Netizens react with memes, jokes after Nepal PM’s bizarre claim that Lord Ram was Nepali

Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Monday bore the brunt of netizens who came up with hilarious memes and jokes after his bizarre claim that Lord Ram was not an Indian and was actually a Nepali.

On Monday, Oli while accusing India of cultural oppression and encroachment, shot off his mouth, yet again, this time saying that Lord Ram was Nepali, and not an Indian.

This is not the first time that Oli has made statements that brought ire upon himself even from his own partymen.

A Nepali news website which describes itself as Nepal’s digital newspaper quoted the prime minister as saying: “We have been oppressed a bit, culturally. Facts have been encroached.”

Speaking at a cultural programme at his residence, Oli said that Ayodhya, the ancient city believed by millions of Hindus to be the birthplace of Lord Ram, is actually a small village near Kathmandu.

“We still believe we gave Sita to Prince Ram but we gave the prince too, from Ayodhya, not India. Ayodhya is a village a little west (of) Birgunj (a district in Nepal that is around 135 km from capital Kathmandu),” Prime Minister Oli added.

Interestingly, Oli’s remark have created a lot of buzz with people making fun of him. Social media platforms were abuzz with jokes and Twitterati coming up with funny reactions rather than anger at his bizarre claims.
