External Affairs Ministry today said that the nexus between organized crime, trafficking, gun running and extremists at the international level is a serious issue for law enforcement agencies to consider. Addressing media in New Delhi this afternoon, Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that the US side had shared some inputs pertaining to nexus between organized criminals, gun runners, terrorists and others during discussions on bilateral security cooperation.
He informed that a high-level Enquiry Committee has been constituted to look into all the relevant aspects of the matter. Necessary follow-up action will be taken based on the findings of the Enquiry Committee.
Responding to a query on the case against an individual that has been filed in a US court, allegedly linking him to an Indian official, Mr Bagchi said this is a matter of concern and reiterated that this is also contrary to Government policy.
On Canada, the spokesperson stressed that they have consistently given space to anti-India extremists and violence and that is at the heart of the issue. He said India’s diplomatic representatives have borne the brunt of this. He said New Delhi expects the Government of Canada to live up to their obligations under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. He said there has also been interference in India’s internal affairs and called it unacceptable.
