Ukrainian Defense Forces struck an oil terminal at the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, Russia’s second-largest oil export hub, overnight into Nov. 14, NV’s sources in Ukraine’s SBU Security Service reported.
Ukraine struck a key oil terminal in the Russian port city of Novorossiysk overnight, triggering a fire and damaging key infrastructure.
The depot, one of Russia’s largest oil export facilities, was targeted by Ukrainian forces in an attack acknowledged by officials from both countries.
The Ukrainian General Staff said strike damaged valuable infrastructure at the port and oil terminal, along with a launcher from Russia’s S400 air defense system.
The Russian governor of Krasnodar Krai, Veniamin Kondratiev, confirmed the strike saying fragments of downed Ukrainian drones had hit the oil depot.
He reported, at least four people were injured as a result of Ukraine’s attack on the port city and four apartment buildings and two private homes had been damaged.
He added a state of emergency has been declared. Russia’s defense ministry said it had intercepted a total of 216 Ukrainian drones overnight.
The attack, which struck the Sheskharis oil terminal and sparked fires, according to officials, serves as the endpoint for pipelines.
It sparked a large fire at the site, now extinguished, causing it to suspend exports of 2.2 million barrels per day, according to Reuters, citing industry sources.
Ukrainian strikes have repeatedly targeted Novorossiysk as it acts as a key hub for Russia’s Black Sea logistics and energy infrastructure.
