Over 48,000 COVID-19 cases in India in 24 hours, recovery rate improves marginally

India reported 48,916 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 13,36,861, even as the the recovery rate improved marginally to 63.53 percent, the government data shows.

The country also witnessed 757 virus-related deaths during the period, according to the data released by the Health Ministry. With 31,358 deaths, the fatalities in India is now the sixth-biggest in the world; the country is behind the US, Brazil, Britain, Mexico and Italy.

The recovery rate is 63.53 percent and positivity rate is 11.62 percent. The highest number of samples were tested on Friday, with 4,20,898 samples collected. This is the third consecutive day when COVID-19 cases increased by more than 45,000.
