Over 50,000 people in Assam take shelter at relief camps due to floods

In flood hit Assam, over 50,000 displaced people have taken shelter at relief camps even as the current wave of floods have affected 28,00,000 people and washed away houses, and cattle stock. More than 1.28 lakh hectare crop areas are also under water.

So far 96 people have lost their lives and a majority portion of national parks and wildlife sanctuaries are also under water.

Meanwhile, the Panchayat and Rural Development Department will give priority in allocating works under MGNREGA at flood hit areas.

Principal Secretary J B Ekka said that MGNREGA works are affected to some extent due to floods. As soon as the flood water recedes priority basis works will be done.
