Continuous rain in higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh for the last couple of days has led to the flowing of water down to plains of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh creating flood like situation in many parts of both the neighboring states and the union territory.
In the tri-city of Chandigarh-Mohali-Panchkula, heavy rain and flowing of water from hills has created problems for the commuters as many areas have been flooded.
In parts of Punjab’s Anandpur Sahib, water is continuously increasing. Roads opposite the Takhat Sri Kesgarh Sahib and surrounding areas are overflowing with water.
Punjab Education Minister, Harjot Singh Bains, who is reviewing the situation by visiting the affected areas at Anandpur Sahib has appealed to all to stay away from the river banks and try not to venture out unnecessarily.
In Gurdaspur, due to increase in water in River Ravi, boat service to village Makora Pattan has been stopped due to which about six villages are facing commuting problems.
The villagers are forced to take longer routes to finish their urgent works. Pathankot also experienced heavy rain last night.
Meanwhile, the Met Department has issued a yellow alert of heavy rain in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshehar, Rupnagar, Mohali and Fatehgarh Sahib and in the Haryana districts of Yamuna Nagar, Ambala, Panchkula and surrounding areas for today.
