Special CBI court acquits former Maharashtra Home Minister Padamsinh Patil in 2006 murder case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will challenge the acquittal of former Maharashtra Home Minister Padamsinh Patil and seven others in the 2006 murder case of Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar and his driver.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that he and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis discussed the matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Following the discussion, Mr Shah directed the CBI to challenge the special court’s verdict in a higher court, and the agency will take appropriate legal action.

Earlier today, a special CBI court in Mumbai acquitted Padamsinh Patil and seven others in the case. Delivering the verdict, Special CBI Court Judge Satyanarayan Navandar observed that the prosecution had failed to establish the chain of conspiracy beyond reasonable doubt.

The case relates to the killing of Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar and his driver in 2006.
