Ruling BJP Coalition wins Assembly by-election in Suar, Chhanbey seats in UP

The ruling BJP coalition in Uttar Pradesh has won the Assembly by-elections in Suar and Chhanbey constituencies. Apna dal (Sonelal), ally of BJP in Uttar Pradesh has fielded candidates on both seats in by-elections and they defeated their arrival Samajwadi party candidates. On Suar seat in Rampur district, Apna Dal candidate Shafeek Ahmed Ansari defeated Samajwadi Party candidate Anuradha Chauhan by a margin of 8724 votes while on Chhanbey seat of Mirzapur district, Apna Dal candidate Rinki Kol defeated Samajwadi Party candidate Kirti Kol by a margin of 9587 votes. Bypolls were held on both seats on May 10.

The Suar seat was previously represented by Abdullah Azam Khan, the son of SP stalwart Azam Khan and was declared vacant in February after a Moradabad court sentenced Abdullah Azam to two years in jail in a 15-year-old case.

On the other hand, the Chhanbey Assembly seat in Mirzapur fell vacant after the death of Apna Dal (Sonelal) MLA Rahul Prakash Kol in February 2023 and party fielded his wife on this seat.
