Aam Aadmi Party has won the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-poll in Punjab. AAP candidate Sushil Kumar Rinku defeated Congress candidate Karamjit Kaur by a margin of 58,647 votes.
Shiromani Akali Dal- Bahujan Samaj Party (SAD-BJP) candidate Sukhwinder Sukhi secured only 1,58,354 votes while BJP remained at fourth position getting 1,34,706 votes.
As per data provided by the Punjab Chief Electoral Officer, the AAP got 34.05 percent, Congress 27.44 percent, SAD-BSP 17.85 percent and BJP 15.19 percent votes.
The Lok Sabha seat fell vacant after the death of Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary who suffered cardiac arrest during Bharat Jodo Yatra of Rahul Gandhi in January this year.
