In Haryana, four MLAs of the Jannayak Janta Party have resigned today from the party. The MLAs who resigned include Anoop Dhanak from the Uklana assembly constituency in Hisar district, Devendra Singh Babli from Tohana in Fatehabad, Ishwar Singh from Guhla-Chika in Kaithal, and Ramsharan from Shahabad in Kurukshetra.
In the 2019 assembly elections, the JJP had ten MLAs. The JJP then formed an alliance with the BJP. However, just before the Lok Sabha elections, this alliance broke, and the JJP candidates could not secure even a seat in the Lok Sabha elections.
The Election Commission announced that Haryana’s assembly elections will occur in a single phase on October 1, with results declared on October 4. The JJP had secured 10 seats in the 2019 assembly elections. Dhanak and Babli were ministers in the coalition government led by Manohar Lal Khattar.
Two other JJP MLAs, Ram Niwas Surjakhera from Narwana and Jogi Ram Sihag from Barwala, are currently facing disqualification charges. The JJP had allied with the BJP after the latter failed to secure a majority in the 90-member House during the 2019 elections.
The BJP-JJP alliance ended in March when Nayab Singh Saini replaced Khattar as chief minister. This shift marked a significant change in Haryana’s political landscape. The departure of these four MLAs adds to the challenges faced by the JJP as it prepares for the upcoming elections.
