In Goa, 301 candidates are in the fray for the single-phase assembly elections after the withdrawal of candidature ended yesterday. 31 candidates have withdrawn their nominations. Out of 301 candidates, maximum 13 are in the fray from Siolim constituency followed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s Sakhalim constituency where 12 candidates are contesting.
This election has witnessed an increase in the number of candidates by 50, compared to the 2017 assembly election. This could be attributed to the fact that several newer parties have thrown their hats in the ring.
Apart from BJP, Congress, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, Goa Forward Party and AAP, newer entrants such as TMC, Revolutionary Goans Party, Jai Maha Bharath party, Goencho Swabhiman Party and Sambhaji Brigade have also put up candidates.
Goa will go to the assembly polls on 14th of February. The counting of votes will take place on 10th of March.
