3 killed in police firing in Bengaluru after violence erupts following a Facebook post

Three people were killed in police firing in Bengaluru after violence erupted following a Facebook message posted allegedly by a relative of a Congress MLA.

Around 60 police have also been injured in the violence in the eastern part of the city on Tuesday night whereas more than 100 people have been arrested for violence, stone-throwing and assault on police personnel, the city’s police chief told the media.

The mob attacked Pulakeshinagar MLA Akhand Srinivasa Murthy’s house. Rioters also gathered near the KG Halli police station in east Bengaluru, demanding a case be registered against the leader’s nephew and vandalised police vehicles. Restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC have been imposed in Bengaluru.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has meanwhile condemned the attack and said that strict action will be taken against the perpetrators of the violence.
