Asian Games. India bags 3 silver, 4 bronze, medal tally reaches 60.

Updated, Oct 02, 2023. 7.25 PM. India bagged three silver and four bronze medals on Monday in Asian Games 2023 being held in Hangzhou, China. With this, the overall tally of the country rose to 60 medals- 13 gold, 24 silver and 23 bronze. Athletes once again brought laurels to the country.

In its latest win, India grabbed the silver medal in the 4X400m mixed team relay event. Indian quartet of Muhammed Ajmal, R. Vithya Ramraj, Rajesh Ramesh and Subha Venkatesan finished with a timing of 3:14.34s. Sri Lanka overtook India in the last few meters but was later disqualified for ‘lane infringement’.

In women’s long jump final, Ancy Sojan Edappilly won the silver medal. She registered a best jump of 6.63m.

Indian decathlon champion, Tejaswin Shankar, won the 400m race with a timing of 49.67 seconds, to finish on top after five events. He currently stands first on the scoreboard, with four thousand two hundred and sixty points. This places him in the lead by two hundred and fifty points.

In women’s steeple chase 3,000m final, Parul Chaudhary won silver and Priti Lamba clinched bronze medal. India’s women and men speed skating relay teams secured two bronze medals while in table tennis, India picked up a historic bronze medal in the women’s doubles tournament.

The Indian women speed skating relay team consisting of Sanjana Bhatuka, Karthika Jagadeeswaran, Heeral Sadhu and Aaratju Kastury clinched a third-place in speed skating 3000m relay team event. Indian men’s team of Aryan Pal, Anand Kumar, Siddhant and Vikram also clinched a bronze in their final event.

Indian Table Tennis players Ayhika Mukherjee and Sutirtha Mukherjee picked up a historic bronze medal in the women’s doubles tournament. The Indian duo lost to Suyong Cha and Sugyong Pak of North Korea in the semi-finals by 4-3 today.

Indian squash player, Saurav Ghosal, cruised to a resounding win against Ammar Altamimi of Kuwait in the round of 16 today. He scored superbly in all the three rounds by 11-4, 11-4 and 11-6.

India’s Kabaddi campaign also kicked off on Monday. The women’s team, two-time Asian Games champions, scored 34 leading to a tie between India and the Chinese Taipei. Meanwhile, the seven-time gold medalist Indian men’s kabaddi team will play against Bangladesh on Tuesday.

In men’s hockey, the Indian side showed no mercy to score a 12-0 win over Bangladesh in the Pool A final match. Skipper Harmanpreet Singh scored a hat-trick of penalty corners while Mandeep Singh also netted thrice. The Harmanpreet Singh led team won all the five group games, scoring 58 goals while conceding only five.

In Badminton, India’s Sai Pratheek and Tanisha Crasto won in straight games versus Macao China’s Leong lok Chong and Ng Weng Chi in the badminton mixed doubles round of 32. The Indian duo will take on Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei in the round of 16 tomorrow.

In athletics, several exciting events have been lined up tomorrow as the Asian Games enter its Day 10. They include 110 meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault and javelin throw.
