Bengali filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta dies at 77 in Kolkata

Legendary Bengali filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta died at the age of 77 this morning, June 10, of age-related complications. He was in his South Kolkata residence when he breathed his last.

As per reports, Buddhadeb Dasgupta was ill and was on dialysis for a while. He had also been suffering from kidney disease. He died in his sleep at 8 in the morning.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also took to Twitter to condole the death of Buddhadeb Dasgupta. She wrote, “Saddened at the passing away of eminent filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta. Through his works, he infused lyricism into the language of cinema. His death comes as a great loss for the film fraternity. Condolences to his family, colleagues and admirers (sic).”

Filmmaker Raj Chakraborty was one of the first ones to condole the death of the veteran director. Raj took to Twitter and write, “Recipient of numerous National and International honours, legendary filmmaker and renowned poet, #BuddhadebDasgupta has passed away. Sincere condolences to his family and friends (sic).”
