The Central Bureau of Investigation CBI has arrested a serving naval officer and two retired naval personnel along with two private persons for allegedly leaking confidential information related to an ongoing submarines project. The agency conducted searches at 19 locations including in Delhi, Noida, Mumbai, Hyderabad and seized important documents and digital evidence which are being examined. It is alleged that the serving officer had discussed crucial details about the ongoing modernisation project of Kilo class submarines with the two retired officers for illegal gratification. The agency also questioned several other officers and ex-servicemen.
The Navy is also conducting an internal inquiry headed by a Vice Admiral into the case to probe the information leak. The Indian Navy said, investigation related to alleged information leak of administrative and commercial nature being with some unauthorized personnel has come to light and is being investigated by appropriate government agency.
