In Himachal Pradesh, five people, including a three-month-old infant, were killed after a car plunged nearly 400 metres into a deep gorge on the Chamba-Pathankot National Highway in the Lahad area of Dalhousie subdivision in Chamba district this morning.
Police recovered the bodies from the gorge and have initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident. All the victims were residents of Chamba district and were returning home from Chandigarh.
Their Alto skidded off the Bharmaur–Pathankot National Highway amid heavy rainfall, dense fog, and poor visibility. Officials identified the victims as Bachan Singh, a resident of Gehra; his son Ripan Kumar; Ripan’s wife Rimpy; their three-month-old daughter; and Bachan Singh’s niece Keerti.
The accident took place on Monday night near Lahad in Banikhet town, on the Pathankot-Chamba National Highway, when the family was returning from Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) Chandigarh after a check-up of their child at the hospital.
