Due to heavy rainfall in Nepal’s catchment area, the water levels of the Gandak, Bagmati, Kamla Balan, and Kosi rivers in Bihar have been rising continuously. In Gopalganj, the Gandak River has crossed the danger mark by 02 centimetres.
As the water level of the Gandak River continues to rise, 183,900 cusecs of water had been discharged from the Valmikinagar Gandak Barrage in West Champaran district by 12:00 noon today.
By 11:00 p.m. last night, the discharge had reached 221,000 cusecs. In view of the rising river level, the Water Resources Department has issued an alert. It has also cancelled the leave of all engineers until further orders.
The district administration has advised people living in nearby areas to remain vigilant and move to safer locations if necessary.
Meanwhile, in Sheohar, the rising water level of the Bagmati River has led to riverbank erosion. At several places, water has begun spreading inside both embankments of the river.
