In a major anti-infiltration operation in Jammu and Kashmir, security forces eliminated two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists attempting to cross the Line of Control in the Poonch sector.
The encounter began after troops observed suspicious movement along the fence early this morning. Swift action by the security forces, led to the terrorists being gunned down. The encounter follows the recent elimination of terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam attack. Three weapons were recovered from the site.
A massive search operation is currently underway in the Deghwar sector of Poonch, after movement of suspicious individuals was detected close to the LoC.
The terrorists were attempting to infiltrate from Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir (POK) when they were intercepted and gunned down by Indian troops, sources told India Today TV. The operation remains active, with reinforcements deployed to sanitise the area.
Today’s encounter came a day after security forces eliminated three terrorists, including the alleged mastermind of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and two of his associates, in a separate encounter on the outskirts of Srinagar.
Among those killed in Monday’s operation was Suleiman alias Asif, said to be the chief planner of the Pahalgam attack in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were brutally killed. The Army crackdown, codenamed “Operation Mahadev”, was launched based on a technical intercept linked to a satellite phone used by the Pahalgam attackers.
The two other terrorists killed in the Srinagar encounter were identified as Jibran — allegedly involved in last year’s attack on the Sonamarg Tunnel — and Hamza Afghani. An M4 carbine rifle, two AK rifles and other munitions were seized from the site of Monday’s encounter.
