At least six people killed, 24 injured in shooting in US Independence Day parade at Chicago

At least six people were killed and more than two dozen were wounded in a mass shooting incident at July Fourth Independence Day parade in a suburb outside Chicago, Illinois last night. Police officials said they are still searching for a white man, aged 18-20, described as armed and dangerous. The event in Highland Park, a Chicago suburb, was suddenly halted about 10 minutes after it began when several shots were heard.

Local police commander Chris O’Neill said a rifle was recovered from the scene. He said the attack appears to be completely random and the suspect appeared to shoot from a roof.

The mayor of Highland Park said the festival had been canceled and asked people to avoid the downtown area.
