APEDA facilitates export of 1.755 tonnes of organic Palmyra jaggery powder from Tamil Nadu to Bulgaria.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated Export of 1.755 MT of Organic Palmyra Jaggery Powder from Tamil Nadu to Bulgaria.

The consignment of National Programme for Organic Production and EU-certified organic Palmyra Jaggery Powder was dispatched yesterday from Erode district of Tamil Nadu to Varna, Bulgaria.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry said the consignment marks an important step towards introducing India’s traditional Palmyra-based products to international markets and diversifying the country’s organic export basket.

It said that the initiative, which covers 137 acres under organic cultivation, seeks to link Tamil Nadu’s traditional Palmyra-based products market internationally, creating new opportunities for farmers engaged in the organic cultivation.

The Ministry highlighted that by developing export-ready products from this resource, the initiative is set to expand market opportunities while supporting producers and the wider value chain.

The ministry also noted that the consignment will be shipped by sea through Chennai Port.

Derived from Palmyra blossom nectar, Palmyra Jaggery Powder is a better alternative to refined sugar as it offers potential nutritional benefits, including vitamins and minerals.

The Palmyra-based products including Jaggery Powder are associated with traditional production practices and the use of the Palmyra palm, which has long been part of the agricultural and cultural landscape of Tamil Nadu.
