151 dead in Halloween stampede in South Korea, over 100 injured

The death toll in last night’s stampede in the South Korean capital Seoul has reached 151. At least 100 others have been injured in the incident as huge crowds gathered in a popular nightlife area to celebrate Halloween in Seoul’s Itaewon district.

The death toll is likely to rise as emergency workers continue to transport the injured to hospitals across Seoul following the stampede.

Many of the injured are in serious condition and receiving emergency treatment. Officials said people were crushed to death after a large crowd began pushing forward in a narrow alley near Hamilton Hotel, a major party spot in Seoul. However, authorities are yet to provide exact details on the cause of the incident.

Local media estimated that one lakh people were in the streets of Itaewon last night for Halloween parties.
