Second part of Budget Session of Parliament begins, ruckus in RS

The second part of the Budget Session of Parliament began today on a stormy note. In view of COVID-19 pandemic, the Rajya Sabha will sit from 9 AM to 2 PM, while Lok Sabha will function between 4 PM and 9 PM.

The second leg of the session will conclude on the 8th of next month. The first part of the Budget Session had started on January 29. The Rajya Sabha was adjourned on 12th February and the Lok Sabha the next day for recess.

The second half of Parliament’s Budget Session began on a stormy note on Monday as the opposition Congress demanded a discussion on fuel price hike, leading to the adjournment of the House till 11am. Early on Monday, the Trinamool Congress sought the adjournment of the session citing state elections are only a few weeks away and MPs may not be able to attend.

Addressing the Rajya Sabha, LoP Mallikarjun Kharge said: “Petrol & diesel prices are nearly Rs 100 per litre & Rs 80 per litre respectively. LPG prices have also gone up. Rs 21 lakh crores have been collected by putting excise duty/cess, because of this entire country including farmers are suffering.”
