The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Assam over the next three to four days.
According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely from 30th July to 1st August across Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
The heavy rainfall in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland is likely to impact the bordering districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat in Assam.
The weather office has warned that the intense rainfall may lead to waterlogging, flash floods, disruption of road traffic and localised landslides in vulnerable areas.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said district administrations and emergency response agencies have been placed on alert and are closely monitoring the situation.
The authority has advised people to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain and to stay updated through official weather bulletins and advisories issued by local authorities.
