Incessant rain continues to wreak havoc in Assam, with 10 more flood-related deaths reported yesterday, taking the toll to 41. Over 6.4 lakh people have been affected across the state in 40 revenue circles. Relief and rescue operations are continuing in the affected districts as several rivers continue to flow above the danger level.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall across the state over the next 3 to 4 days. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority has issued an advisory urging people, especially those living in low-lying and hillside areas, to remain vigilant and follow weather updates and advisories issued by the administration.
In Guwahati, authorities have issued traffic advisories and urged commuters to remain cautious, as heavy rainfall may lead to waterlogging, traffic congestion and localised disruptions in several parts of the city.
Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota yesterday reviewed the flood situation in the worst-affected districts of Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat and assessed the preparedness of various government departments.
He directed officials to ensure uninterrupted relief distribution, speedy restoration of essential services and repair of damaged infrastructure in flood-affected areas.
