Heavy rain lashes Odisha. IMD issues red alert for several districts.

Odisha is experiencing widespread and intense monsoon precipitation, with several districts recording heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, under the influence of a well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the persistence of the system over the next two to three days, with the potential for further enhancement in rainfall activity across the state.

The IMD has also issued a Red Warning for several districts, cautioning against extremely heavy downpours, while Orange and Yellow alerts remain in force elsewhere.

The prevailing weather system has triggered waterlogging in low-lying areas, prompting the state administration to place disaster response agencies and district authorities on heightened vigilance.

Meanwhile, the sea along and off the Odisha coast is expected to remain rough to very rough until the 7th of this month. Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea, while residents in vulnerable areas have been urged to exercise utmost caution and strictly adhere to official advisories.
