Delhi Govt intensifies waterlogging measures after heavy rainfall disrupts traffic.

Delhiites woke up to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms this morning. The rain caused water-logging in various places, due to which traffic movement was severely affected.

According to the IMD, Safdarjung recorded 73 millimetres of rainfall, Lodhi Road received 80 mm, Palam 63 mm and Ayanagar 57 millimetres during the last 24 hours.

Delhi government has said that teams of the Delhi Jal Board, Public Works Department and the Municipal Corporation are on the ground and dealing with waterlogging situation. I

t added that the Delhi Government is working on a war footing to tackle waterlogging, and all necessary measures are being taken by the administration. The Delhi Chief Minister’s Office said that all concerned agencies are on alert following the directions of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh visited the PWD Control Room to review its functioning and assess the preparedness and monitoring mechanism amid heavy rainfall in the city.

Talking to the media, Mr Singh said that the government had promised a good drainage system in the city. He added that traffic is flowing normally at 45 places like Minto Bridge where there used to be severe waterlogging.
