BJP hits out at Punjab govt in connection with security breach of Prime Minister

BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda today hit out at the Congress-led Punjab government in connection with the security breach of Prime Minister during his visit to the state. In a series of tweets, Mr Nadda said that fearing a resounding defeat at the hands of the electorate, the Congress Government in Punjab tried all possible tricks to scuttle the Prime Minister’s programmes in the state. He alleged that in doing so, they did not bother that Modi was to pay tributes to Bhagat Singh and other martyrs, and lay the foundation stone for key development works.

He said, by their cheap antics, the Congress Government has shown that they are anti-development and have no respect for freedom fighters too. The BJP Chief said that it is extremely worrisome that this incident was also a big security lapse as far as the Prime Minister is concerned. He alleged that protestors were given access to the Prime Minister’s route while the Punjab Chief Secretary and DGP gave assurances to SPG that the route is clear. He also said that to make matters worse, Punjab Chief Minister refused to get on the phone to either address the matter or solve it. He said, the tactics used by the Congress government in Punjab would pain anyone who believes in democratic principles.

Mr Nadda alleged that the state police was instructed to prevent people from attending the rally as large number of buses were stranded because of the high-handedness of the police and connivance with protestors. The BJP President added that it is sad that Prime Minister’s visit to launch development projects worth thousands of crores of rupees for Punjab was disrupted but we will not let such cheap mentality hinder progress of Punjab and will continue the effort for the development of the State.

BJP Leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani hit out at the Congress Government in Punjab for security breach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state. Briefing media in New Delhi, Ms Irani said, never before in the history of our country were police functionaries in a state directed and convenienced to breach the security of a Prime Minister and bring him harm. Ms Irani said, such is the breakdown of law and order in Punjab that the DGP Police claims he is incapable of providing security support and details to the PMO. She said, such is the state of administration in Punjab that a security detail and run that is a protocol administratively to be followed by a state head was dismantled so that PM Modi could be brought to harm.

Ms Irani questioned the Congress government in Punjab that why did the DGP Police give an all-clear to the PM’s security detail for the route that the PM was to undertake. She questioned who in the Punjab Government gave information about the Prime Minister’s route to individuals who planted themselves atop the flyover. Ms Irani said, video evidence, now publicly available, bring such questions to the fore. She also questioned why did those who lead the security on behalf of the state government not respond to any call or efforts to secure the Prime Minister.
