In Jammu and Kashmir, the Army has launched a major counter-terrorist operation in the Shopian district after two terrorists belonging to the banned outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were cornered in a dense orchard.
According to officials, the operation was launched on Friday afternoon after the two terrorists were spotted in the orchard in the Meemandar area, which comprises seven villages.
A joint team of several columns of the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF laid a tight cordon around the area and cleared four villages by the evening.
Officials said the terrorists opened fire on the approaching security forces personnel. The forces retaliated effectively, triggering a gunfight.
