
Two villages in the Serlui constituency, North Chawnpui and Saihapui ‘K’, have been affected by flooding following heavy rainfall, with residents of flood-hit areas being moved to safer locations.
Water levels at the Serlui B Hydel Project reservoir have continued to rise after heavy rain. Residents in the lower parts of North Chawnpui have started moving to safer areas as a precaution.
Saihapui ‘K’ has also been affected after the Tuichhuahen river near the village overflowed and flooded parts of the settlement, prompting residents to leave their homes.
The rising water level has raised concerns that the flooding could worsen, although no major damage or casualties have been reported so far, according to available information.
Serlui MLA Lalrinsanga Ralte has urged the Kolasib district administration to provide all possible assistance and support to people affected by the flooding in his constituency.
The reservoir has received a substantial amount of water following recent heavy rainfall, causing its level to rise steadily.
With the water level continuing to increase, residents in vulnerable parts of North Chawnpui and Saihapui ‘K’ have been relocating to safer areas.
