The Heikru Hidongba festival, popularly known as the traditional boat race festival, was celebrated in the valley districts of Manipur today.
The festival is celebrated on the 11th day of the Manipur calendar month ‘Langban’ (September) to bring prosperity to the community.
The celebration was organised at Bijoy Govinda Moat at Sagolband in Imphal West district this afternoon, in which Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, First Lady of Manipur Jyoti Bhalla, MLA of Sagolband Assembly Constituency R.K. Imo and other dignitaries attended.
Before the boat race, religious rituals were performed, along with paying obeisance to God for bountiful blessings.
A large number of people thronged the Bijoy Govinda Moat to witness the boat race organised as part of the traditional ‘Heikru Hidongba’ festival.
