The Mumbai police have issued a high alert for the financial capital following a warning from central intelligence agencies about a potential terrorist attack. Security measures have been enhanced in crowded areas and religious sites, as well as sensitive locations.
In light of the upcoming Navratri celebrations, security has been heightened at popular temples, including Siddhivinayak Temple, and additional personnel have been deployed. Security protocols have been established for devotees visiting these sites.
A senior police officer inspected security arrangements in Chembur and in Matunga, a temple was closed for devotees following a police inspection in the morning.
“With upcoming festivals and assembly elections, we are conducting security drills at Crawford Market and other key locations across the city,” the officer said.
There was heavy police deployment in the crowded Crawford Market area on Friday. The police, withholding details, said that it was a security drill.
Mumbai Police ramped up security in most crowded areas, especially at places of worship that witness high footfalls, after the Intelligence Bureau (IB) issued an alert about potential terror activity in the city.
