The Rajasthan Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma today approved several key proposals, including draft Rajasthan Uniform Civil Code Bill 2026.
Briefing media after the Cabinet meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jogaram Patel said the draft of Rajasthan Uniform Civil Code Bill 2026 has been approved.
The proposed legislation seeks to provide uniform provisions across the state relating to marriage, divorce, inheritance, maintenance and live-in relationships. Rituals and customs of tribal communities have been kept outside the purview of the draft UCC.
The state government has also decided to introduce the Rajasthan Tree Protection Bill 2026, with stringent provisions to prevent illegal and indiscriminate felling of trees.
A total of 29 species, including the state tree Khejri, Rohida and Peepal, have been placed in the protected category. The government said the move aims to check desertification and increase green cover in the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr Prem Chand Bairwa said the Cabinet approved amendments to the Rajasthan Service Rules 1951. Under the amended provisions, daughters-in-law of deceased government employees will also be eligible for compassionate appointments.
The Cabinet also approved a proposal to grant 90 days of maternity leave to surrogate mothers. In addition, child care leave available to single women government employees will now be granted in six spells instead of three.
