Many candidates files nomination for first and second phase of Manipur Assembly polls

Many candidates on Monday filed their nomination papers for both first and second phases of assembly elections. The last date of the submission of nomination papers for the first phase is tomorrow while the last date of submission for the second phase will be the 11th of this month.

Voting will be held in 38 assembly constituencies on 27th of this month in the first phase while second phase voting will be held in 22 assembly constituencies on 3rd March. Meanwhile, an official team of the Election Commission of India led by Chief Election Commissioner of India Sushil Chandra arrived at Imphal on a two-day visit to review the poll preparedness in Manipur.

With only one day left for the submission of nomination papers for the first phase, many candidates filed their nomination papers till this evening. More than eighty candidates submitted their nomination papers to the concerned Returning Officer and the total number of candidates who have filed nomination papers for first phase poll has crossed one hundred and twenty till the filling of this report.

In the first phase, voting for 38 assembly constituencies will be held on 27th of this month. Around ten candidates filed nomination papers for second phase polls in Manipur today. In this phase, elections will be held for 22 assembly constituencies on 3rd of next month.

Meanwhile, a team of Election Commission of India led by  Chief Election Commissioner of India Sushil Chandra arrived at Imphal on a two days visit to the State. He was accompanied by Election Commissioners Rajiv Kumar, Anup Chandra Pandey, and senior officials of ECI. The Chief Election Commissioner of India convened a meeting this evening with District Election Officers, Superintendent of Police, State Election Officers, and other state officials and reviewed the preparedness of polls in Manipur.
