Heavy downpour continues across North-east as Cyclone Sitrang weakens into depression

Heavy downpour continued to lash across North-east as Cyclone Sitrang weakened into depression late on Tuesday.

In Manipur normal life in some parts of Ukhrul, Noney and Tamenglong districts were affected due to the cyclone Sitrang. The entire state also witnessed low rainfall since yesterday due to the cyclone.

It is reported that dozens of households were destroyed due to the cyclone yesterday in several villages in Noney and Tamenglong districts. The cyclonic storm ripped off the rooftop of homes and minor landslides were occured along the highways in the districts.

Moreover, the rainfall caused by the cyclone also damaged crops as most of the paddy fields in Imphal valley are ready to harvest. However, the cyclonic storm and rainfall would not deter the public from celebrating Diwali today.

While most states celebrated Diwali yesterday, the festival is celebrated today in Manipur.
