Meghalaya Chief Secretary Dr. Shakil P. Ahammed has urged officials to ensure that every individual is counted in Census 2027, stressing the importance of accurate population data for inclusive development and effective implementation of welfare schemes.
Addressing a state-level training conference in Shillong today, he said reliable demographic data would help identify gaps in healthcare, education, road connectivity and other essential services.
He emphasised the need to cover remote areas and vulnerable communities to ensure that no one is left out of government welfare programmes.
The Chief Secretary also called for greater public awareness and participation in the census. The conference focused on enumeration procedures, digital tools, coordination among officials and public outreach ahead of the population enumeration phase.
