Educational institutions to reopen from today in Assam

Educational institutions of Assam which were closed since mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic will reopen from today for students of standards VI to XII and all undergraduate, degree colleges, engineering colleges, polytechnics, universities and private training and coaching institutes. Earlier classes for IX to XII standard students had partially resumed from September 21.

However, classes for students of standards I to V will continue to remain suspended until further orders.
The State government has notified a detailed SOP (standard operating procedure) for fresh reopening of classes in all schools and colleges for maintaining the protocols of safety guidelines under the COVID-19 pandemic. A staggered timetable will be followed for all the classes from VI to XII.

“We will be following a wait and watch policy. In case there are cases of infection among students and teachers, we will have to review the decisions,” a government official said.

However, the online mode of education will continue for students who prefer online classes rather than physically attend school.

A district-level task force chaired by the deputy commissioner and consisting of district heads of line departments concerned as members will be responsible for ensuring enforcement of the SOP.

On every Sunday, there will be community mobilization involving the head of educational institution, village headman (gaonburha), parents, guardians, interested NGOs, SHGs, volunteers regarding precaution and awareness on COVID-19, maintaining health and hygiene, etc.
