BJP sweeps Tripura civic elections, winning 329 of 334 seats

The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has swept the Tripura civic body elections winning 329 out of total 334 seats. Counting of votes was held yesterday at 13 different counting centres across the state. Party won 217 seats out of 222 seats across 13 ULBs including Agartala Municipal Corporation. BJP had already won 112 seats from 20 urban bodies uncontested.

CPIM managed to win 3 seats and one seat each was won by TMC and an Independent Candidate, a total of 5 seats out of total 334 seats.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded Tripura BJP Karyakartas who worked tirelessly on the ground and served people. He said, under the leadership of Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb, the State Government has been at the forefront of many initiatives, which the people have duly blessed.

The Prime Minister said that people of Tripura have given a clear message – that they prefer politics of good governance. In a tweet, Mr Modi thanked them for the unequivocal support to Tripura BJP. He said, these blessings give us greater strength to work for the welfare of each and every person in Tripura.

BJP President J P Nadda also expressed gratitude towards the people of Tripura for the historic and thumping victory. Mr Nadda congratulated Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, State BJP President and Party workers for the victory.

In a tweet, he said, the victory of BJP is a symbol of people’s faith in policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his public welfare schemes and the commitment of double engine government towards development of the state.

He said, it is a victory nationalist forces and developmental thinking. Mr Nadda said that the people of Tripura have rejected the disruptive forces, those doing politics of violence and those who insult Tripura.

He said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not only united the Northeast but has ushered in a new era of development by establishing peace, freeing it from extremism, violence and day-to-day blockades.
