After an alarming rise in COVID-19 cases in Assam’s Jorhat district, the administration has once again opted for a lockdown that will come into effect on July 9. The District Magistrate has informed that this latest phase of the lockdown will come into effect in areas under the Jorhat Municipal board at 7 pm of July 9, and will last until July 15.
At the same time, the lockdown order for Saturdays and Sundays in the municipality and the sub-urban areas of Jorhat, announced by the Assam Government as a necessary move to contain the COVID, will continue as earlier.
Meanwhile, the Jorhat district administration has said that all the shops will be open in the municipal area from July 7-9, giving ample time to residents to stock up on essential items before the lockdown kicks in. The movement of individuals, functioning of government and private offices, movement of private vehicles, hospitality services, the functioning of industrial establishments — all will be prohibited in this upcoming lockdown period.
However, hospitals, pharmacies, a limited number of banks, media, fire, and law and order – services deemed ‘essential’ – will be kept open.
