West Indies beat India by 5 wickets in second T20

Chasing a target of 139, West Indies almost faltered, but eventually held their nerves to register a 5-wicket win over India. With the win, the 5-match series is now level at 1-1.

Brandon King hit a 52-ball 68 to set up West Indies’ chase, while Devon Thomas remained unbeaten on 31 off 19 balls. With West Indies needing 10 off the last over, Thomas hit a six off a free hit and followed it up with a boundary to wrap things up for the hosts in a match that was delayed due to logistical issues.

Earlier, Obed McCoy took six for 17 from his quota of four overs as West Indies bowled out for a paltry of 138 in the ongoing second T20I at the Warner Park in Basseterre. McCoy produced the best figures by a West Indian bowler in T20Is to keep the Indian batting line-up under the pump. For India, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja played cameos of 31 and 27, respectively.

The start of the match was delayed further by an hour and will begin at 11 PM IST. The match was initially scheduled to start at 8 PM IST. India lead the series after winning the first T20I by 68 runs in Tarouba last Friday.

Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik laid the foundation with a strong total before the bowlers steamrolled the West Indian batting line-up. The venue for the second T20I, the Warner Park, has historically been a pacer-friendly track, and teams find it difficult to score big total.

West Indies will be boosted by the returns of Brandon King and Romario Shepherd, who had missed the first T20Is due to US visa appointments.
