India beat England in third ODI, sweep series 3-0

India defeated England by 16 runs in Jhulan Goswami’s final international appearance, at the Lord’s Cricket Stadium. Chasing a target 170, England had slumped to 103 for eight.

However, captain Amy Jones and Charlie Dean put on a rearguard to frustrate the Indian bowlers. Jones was dismissed on 28 by Renuka, who was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets to her name.

Dean, however, threatened to take the game away from India, before she was run-out ina controversial manner on 47 by Deepti Sharma. Earlier, England bundled out India for 169 runs despite fifties from Smriti Mandhana and Deepti. Smriti scored 50 runs while Deepti remained not out on 68. Meanwhile, Jhulan Goswami was dismissed for a first-ball duck in her final international match.

For England, Kate Cross returned figures of 4 for 26, while Freya Kemp and Sophie Ecclestone claimed two wickets apiece. The match at Lord’s, London gives the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side a golden opportunity to complete a series sweep over England and give a memorable farewell to Goswami, who has been India’s bowling spearhead for over a decade.

On the other hand, England will look to stop the Indian juggernaut and bag a consolation win to end things on a happy note. The Indian team won the first game by 7 wickets and bagged the second game by 88 runs.
