Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Shekhawat lauds contribution of women in water management and conservation across nation.

Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has lauded the contribution of women in water management and conservation across the nation. He addressed the gathering after launching the nationwide ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain-2024’ campaign at a function in New Delhi on Saturday. He said, around one crore women of the country have taken up the responsibility to bring positive change.

The Minister said, that is why Prime Minister has decided to dedicate Jal Shakti Abhiyan to the women power of the nation. He also said that from being one of the fragile five a decade ago, the country has now become the fifth largest economy and is moving on the path to become the third largest economy. During the event, the minister also launched two books namely, “Jal Shakti Abhiyan: 2019 to 2023” and “101 Water Champions of Jal Jeevan Mission”.

The fifth edition of the campaign was based on the theme ‘Nari Shakti se Jal Shakti’. The ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain-2024’ campaign will be implemented till the 30th of November this year encompassing both urban and rural areas across all districts in the nation.

Focused interventions of the campaign will include water conservation and rainwater harvesting, enumerating, geo-tagging and making inventory of all water bodies and preparation of scientific plans for water conservation, setting up of Jal Shakti Kendras in all districts; intensive afforestation; and awareness generation among the masses.
