IMD Predicts Above-Normal Rainfall Over Country During Monsoon Months.

India Meteorological Department, IMD has forecast above-normal rainfall over the country as a whole during the monsoon season from June to September this year.

Releasing the second Stage of Long Range Forecast of the Southwest Monsoon, Director General, IMD  Dr Mrutyunjay  Mohapatra said that quantitatively, the southwest monsoon seasonal rainfall over the country as a whole is likely to be 106 per cent of the long-period average (LPA) with a model error of four per cent.

He added that the southwest monsoon rainfall is most likely to be above normal over Central India and South Peninsular India, normal over Northwest India and below normal over Northeast India. In the month of June, normal rainfall is expected over the country as a whole. In its first stage forecast for the Southwest monsoon, the IMD had predicted above-normal rainfall over the country and in the second stage forecast, there is no change.

Dr Mohapatra further informed that conditions are favourable for the onset of monsoon over Kerala and North-Eastern stays in the next five days. Monsoon has already advanced over the South, East, West Central and North East Bay of Bengal along with some parts of the Arabian Sea.
