Reacting to the judicial custody of CJP co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, the party’s legal head Ratna Singh alleged the fact that the hearing was deliberately delayed and the Special Executive Magistrate focused on an alleged threatening message instead of examining the merits of their release.
Singh expressed disappointment over the proceedings, claiming that the required formalities had been completed.
Meanwhile, Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke, who was placed under preventive arrest by the Delhi Police, was released by a Delhi court on Saturday (October 17) after signing a peace bond.
Sporadic protests led by women activists continued for the eighth day against the Chief Election Commissioner and police action.
The Supreme Court has agreed to hear academician and columnist Apoorvanand Jha, who has submitted that equating the right to peaceful protest with a breach of peace is unwarranted and a ploy by the Central government and the Delhi Police to enable preventive detentions.
Separately, the Congress said on Sunday (October 18, 2026) that the Election Commission’s decision to provide “readable” electoral rolls to parties was the result of nationwide protests, and reiterated that CEC Gyanesh Kumar must go and the SIR be suspended immediately.
