Year-long birth centenary celebrations of legendary classical singer Pandit Bhimsen Joshi begins

The year-long Birth Centenary celebrations of doyen of music Pandit Bhimsen Joshi will begin today. A two-day event has been organised in Mumbai to commemorate the timeless legacy of the great musical maestro by Rithwik Foundation for Performing Arts. The event, SwarBhaskar 100 will culminate today with Jayateerth Mevundi’s rendition of Panditji’s compositions. Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal has organised a musical programme called ‘Abhivadan’ at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch in Pune, Maharashtra on Saturday and Sunday.

To celebrate the musical maestro’s life and music, Films Division will be screening his biopic on its website and YouTube channel today. Directed by eminent lyricist and film maker Gulzar, the 73 minute documentary titled “Pt Bhimsen Joshi” is a candid take on the musical journey of this legendary vocalist belonging to the Kirana Gharana. As the doyen of Hindustani classical music, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi enthralled audiences through his soulful khayal renderings, bhajans and abhangs.
