Race for new Karnataka Chief Minister heats up; Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah leaves for Delhi

The efforts are on to elect the new Chief Minister of Karnataka by the Congress party, as senior leaders Siddaramaiah and D K Shivakumar have staked their claim to the post. The Party has gained an absolute majority in the assembly election held on the 10th of May and the Government formation process is in progress. Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Sushilkumar Shinde, AICC General Secretary Jitendra Singh, and Congress leader Deepak Babaria who were appointed as Observers by the AICC President have returned to New Delhi after collecting the opinion of all the Congress Legislators.

The Karnataka Congress Legislative party meeting held yesterday in Bengaluru unanimously authorized the President of the Indian National Congress Mallikarjun Kharge to take a decision on the legislative party leader. Our Correspondent adds that both the claimants to the CM post may be called by the Congress High Command to New Delhi before making an announcement on the Chief Minister. Mr Siddaramaiah has reached Delhi to meet the top leadership of the Party.

Talking to media in Delhi this afternoon, Congress leader Randeep Surjewala said, the observers will submit their report to Mr Kharge by tonight. He said, Congress will soon form the government in Karnataka.
