Manipur updates: 21 Opposition MPs leave for Imphal on Saturday. Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, will make recommendations to the government and Parliament for a solution to Manipur’s problems.



A delegation of 21 MPs from the opposition bloc INDIA is set to visit Manipur for a two-day visit to assess the ground situation in the violence-hit state. The delegation, which includes Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, will make recommendations to the government and Parliament for a solution to Manipur’s problems, based on their observations.

The team of the opposition MPs has sought the use of helicopters locally from the state government to visit Churachandpur, where fresh violence has taken place.

“I have been pained by whatever inhumane incidents have happened in the recent past. We are all hurt by them. The whole society, states and the entire country should tread the path of peace. We should all make efforts for the restoration of peace,” Birla said.

“These incidents are very sad and pain us all. Our behaviour should not hurt anybody. This should be our effort. As a society, it is our moral duty,” he said when asked about the situation in Manipur.



Opposition MPs visit four relief camps in Manipur

“We have visited a total of 4 relief camps, 2 in Churachandpur, 1 in Imphal and 1 in Moirang. Everyone wants peace and everyone wants to build their lives. We will meet with our second team and share our experiences and tomorrow we will be meeting the Governor. We have come to Manipur to understand the expectations of the people and we will reflect that in Parliament,” said Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi.

“We feel that Parliament should have a discussion on this and I think too much delay has happened. The Govt has to give a roadmap and we all want to listen to the government’s plan and give our suggestions,” he added

“I.N.D.I.A alliance is the only delegation which is continuously visited Manipur… We have always said that if the Prime Minister wants to lead an all-party delegation, we would be happy to be a part of it. In the end, we want peace to be established. Political parties from West Bengal, Jharkhand, Kerala, Tamil Nadu to have a dialogue with the people and we want their concerns to be presented in Parliament,” said Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi.



Rally held to protest against demand for ‘separate administration’ by Kukis

A massive rally was taken out in Imphal on Saturday to protest against the demand for a ‘separate administration’ for areas inhabited by the Kuki community.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators from across five valley districts of the state participated in the rally, demanding the territorial integrity of the northeastern state where race riots began in early May.

Govt should have sent a delegation’; TMP MP after visiting relief camp in Churachandpur.

“It was important for us to come and meet the victims here, the sad part is that the Government of India should have sent a delegation but Opposition parties have to send a delegation here,” said TMC MP Sushmita Dev after visiting a relief camp in Churachandpur district.
