The 12th International Day of Yoga was celebrated with devotion and enthusiasm across Maharashtra through various programmes and initiatives in different districts.
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma joined senior officers of the Indian Coast Guard in performing Yoga at Lok Bhavan. He called upon universities across the state to promote Yoga on a large scale and produce Yoga tutors and trainers for the world. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis led the event organised at Juhu Beach.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that Yoga is a panacea for preventing lifestyle-related diseases and that everyone should practise it regularly to stay healthy.
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal participated in a Yoga session in Borivali. Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Khadse, performed Yoga at an event organised by the Sports Authority of India in Mumbai.
Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale practised Yoga at Mumbai’s Priyadarshini Park. Institutions such as IIT Bombay, the Mumbai Port Authority and the National Thermal Power Corporation’s Western Region-I Headquarters (WR-I HQ) in Mumbai also observed the 12th International Day of Yoga.
Various programmes were organised across Maharashtra to mark the occasion.
