Self-enumeration for Census 2027 to begin today in identified snowbound areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the digital self-enumeration process for snow-bound areas has begun from midnight today and will remain open till August 31 as part of the Census-2027 exercise.

Chief Principal Census Officer of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, Amit Sharma, told Akashvani News that the process is being carried out in 16 districts of Jammu and Kashmir, excluding Jammu, Srinagar, Samba and Rajouri. He said Ladakh will be fully covered under the exercise.

Mr Sharma said the self-enumeration process is geo-referenced, meaning only residents who are physically present in their respective designated areas will be able to complete the exercise.

He said the authorities are fully prepared for the exercise and described population enumeration as the most important phase of the Census, as it will provide comprehensive demographic data and other key information.

The residents in the designated areas will be provided the facility to enter their own information through the digital self-enumeration process from today.

The exercise will cover around 40 questions, including complete demographic details, fertility, occupation and other aspects. Caste-related information has also been added this time, with around 40 categories notified and republished for Jammu and Kashmir.
