Rain, snowfall trigger flash flood alert in Ladakh.

During the onset of Monsoons in Ladakh, today Incessant light rains at many places of all districts, Snow and poor visibility over peaks and passes of Ladakh.

Met. Department Ladakh has issued warning of risk of strong and sudden water currents in local Nallahs and possibility of flashfloods.

The communities in the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region could face enhanced risks from flash floods due to bursts of extreme rainfall and cloudbursts during the southwest monsoon season.

These, along with high temperatures could lead to accelerated glacier and snow melting, according to scientists from the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD).
