The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall conditions over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Mahe, and Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh for the next three to four days.
Similar conditions are expected to prevail over North Interior Karnataka, Saurashtra, Kutch, Vidarbha, Rajasthan and parts of North Eastern Region during the next two days. The Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of Gujarat and some more parts of Rajasthan and Haryana today.
Delhiites were in for a treat today, with grey skies and incessant rainfall bringing much-needed relief from the sweltering heat and humidity. People were seen taking shelter under trees as rain and strong winds lashed the city.
Commuters, however, had to face traffic snarls in several areas of the national capital due to waterlogging at key locations. The Met Department has issued a Yellow Alert for the city till this Thursday. IMD has also issued a Red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall over Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till 13th of this month.
The weather agency has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Coastal Karnataka, Gujarat, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and South Interior Karnataka till 13th of this month.
Thundersquall conditions have been forecast over Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Telangana till next Monday. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely over Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Lakshadweep, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Odisha, and the North Eastern region during the next three to four days.
